#TCCfx

Our assignment this week was to attend the TCCfx conference or to view the recording. While attending the conference, we were required to use twitter to tweet about the conference.

After viewing the TCCfx conference, I searched for tweets posted using #tccfx. I could not find a lot of tweets (or I was expecting to see more). If I remember correctly, we had a goal of 150 tweets. I was thinking maybe I didn't have access to people's page, so I didn't have access to people's tweets. However, when I searched using the #tccfx I was able to see people's tweets that were not on my friend's list or in our class. Maybe that was because their tweets were public? Then, I considered that people did not use twitter as often for academic conferences.

I think there are pros and cons to tweeting while at a conference. For example, I found some tweets to be beneficial and included good resources. Some of the tweets just included attending the #tccfx conference.Using Twitter while attending the conference could be engaging. However, it could be distraction as well and could take away attention from the presentation. Overall, I enjoyed the tccfx conference and the experience of using Twitter during an academic conference.

Surviving

If I could choose one word to describe how this semester is going. I would have to say "surviving". First of all, I would like to make it clear that this class isn't overloading, but everything combined can be overwhelming. Who would have thought juggling two kids, two jobs, two college courses, 3 PD courses, and being grade level parent for my daughter's school would be so difficult. Anyways, things have been pretty clear and assignments in this class have been doingable. I am enjoying the experience that we are having with the collaborative video project. Our team is working well together and we are progressing as expected. I hope the rest of my team feels that way.

When we began our storify group project last week things began to get a little confusing. However, thank goddess I have one person that is in both of my groups and it was helpful seeing things laid out on Google Docs. It was nice to be given time in class to meet with our groups being that most of us set aside every other Mondays for class. I was able to get a better understanding of the Storify project. Our group took some time to discuss our understanding of the project and set some due dates. Did you notice the project due date is right around the corner? Like next Monday!

I am also excited to attend the conference. I am not sure what to expect because I haven't been to one of these conferences before. Has anyone ever been to this conference before? However, I have attended a TCC conference before which was held last year. Wait, I mean earlier this year.

Team Harajyuku vs. Waikiki

This week I met with my Kansai collaborative video group. My group includes Desiree, Kaulana H., Naru,  Tomo, and Riho. Although Kaulana was sick and I was unable to meet Riho, I had such a great experience. They were so polite and each had a great personality. They were friendly and we each shared a little about ourselves. We decided to communicate using LINE, google hangouts, google docs. I have never used LINE before, but immidiately downloaded the app and added my new friends to my contact list. LINE is a free app used to communicate with others for free and works great when communicating with those in other countries. Who would have known choosing a topic would be so difficult? Well we didn't figure out a name until we figured out our topic which was also a little difficult. Desiree shared her prior experience doing this project. It helped us to kind of slim down our choices. Finally we came up with the topic about fashion. Later we made the topic a little more specific and came up with what are the fashion trends for the following people in Hawaii and Japan and how do they incorporate social media with their fashion? Our fashion trends would include a university student, night life, kids, and how share fashion on social media. It's interesting how here in Hawaii our weather is the same all year round so we can wear the same thing all year round and in Japan they actaully experience the four seasons and they actually have a great sense of fashion. They even have famous fashion critics. I am looking forward to our next meeting! This project is definitely engaging and a great experience.

Take One

In our upcoming project we will be working on a collaborative video project. This project allows us to collaborate with students of Kansai University. When I first heard of the project, I was a little nervous and excited. I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into. The most exciting part for me was getting the opportunity to work with students from Japan. At first I was thinking how will this all come together? I am excited about creating this video too, but I am looking forward to this unique collaboration experience. I enjoy working in a group because everyone has such good ideas that the quality of the product is much more valuable. I am curious to compare how we all use social media.

This project requires us to put together a 3 minute video that is published on Youtube. The video may include video, pictures, words, and music. This video needs to convey how social media is used in our countries. I am curious to see what social media applications are populare in Japan. Let's get this project rolling!
