This is what I thought I looked like when multitasking.

I enjoyed the readings this week. Sometimes in order to save time and get things done quickly I find myself listening to music, writing a paper, and texting. I figure, "hey I am already really busy and there isn't enough time in the day so I might as well do some homework while having some social time. I used to think hey I am so good at multitasking. This week I learned that I can not really multitask. Multitasking means to do more than one thing simultaneously. Now I know that I am not multitasking instead my brain is moving between the different tasks rapidly. I learned that what I have been doing is wasting more time and is not healthy for my brain. I also learned that only a very small amount of people can actually multitask. I am sad to know that I am not really one of those lucky ones. I found it interesting that our brains are only equipped to handle five to nine things at once. If we try and do multiple tasks that do not require similar brain power, we can be almost certain that we won't be able to recall of it. Since I can't strengthen my multitasking skills, it's best that I work on my time management skills.
This is what I really look like...at least in my head.
Hi Brittany,
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you! Before this week I thought I was the master at multi tasking. It turns out I'm not as good as I thought I was. I also realized how unhealthy it is for my brain. I thought my memory was going but now I realize I don't remember things because I'm always trying to do a million things at once! How can we stop ourselves? It almost seems impossible not to multi task!
I think time management is a good plan. It's definitely something I need to work on. I feel like I'm always doing things at the last minute and therefore always rushing through to get them done. I also thought it was interesting that our brains can only process 5 to 9 things at once. Your pictures are a great representation for your topic of multi tasking. Thanks for sharing!

Aloha Brittany,
ReplyDeleteI have to say I agree with your post for this week.
I think that for me, I always felt that multi-tasking just seemed like a necessary evil that just came with being too busy.
I think that this week really showed the negative impact that multi-tasking really has on us. I think that time management is key and that perhaps to really eradicate multi-tasking from our life we really need to plan ahead and be able to focus on one thing. Anyway, it was a great post thank you for sharing!
